BIRDMEN PLAN AIR CONTESTS WITH INTERCOLLEGIATE RULES

The University Aero Club has definitely expressed itself in favor of the plan of holding an Intercollegiate air race during the coming year. It was tentatively agreed that the second week in May would prove the best time.

As a consequence of this decision there will of necessity be formed an Intercollegiate Aerial League which will function as does the I. C. A. A. A. A. in determining the rules and regulations under which the races will be held. Invitations are now being sent to the other universities and colleges who, it is expected, will join, with the University in the Aerial League.

All definite arrangements and details of the air race plans for the University have been placed in the hands of a committee of three, one member to represent each of the Army, Navy and Marine Corps. L. E. Thomas '21, secretary of the University Aero Club, has been electer to act as chairman of this committee.

It is planned to make the contest a cross-country race with as many "legs" as there are contestants entered. Thus if Princeton, Yale, and the University were entered, the race would extend from Cambridge to New Haven to Princeton. There will be an admission fee for each entry in the race.

The contestants will be men eligible under the Amateur Athletic Association rules which govern intercollegiate athletics. This will mean that they must be undergraduates in the college and that they will be ineligible after four years of residence. Contrary to the ruling which was in force last year, in this race the contestants will pilot their own planes. The Club also decided to accept the offer of the Cleveland Aviation Club to present a trophy to the university winning the air race
