The competitions which the CRIMSON will open tonight begin under especially favorable circumstances,--for the prospective candidates. Never before has the CRIMSON conducted a competition as short as nine weeks, and it probably never will again, after this year. Never before have there been so many vacancies to be filled, due to the depletion of the Board by the call to service.
But two requirements are necessary to be a successful news or business candidate. One of these is the possession of personal initiative and ambition; the other is the ability to work and to stick to it. Neither of these should be hard to meet by the majority of undergraduates. To aspire to the editorial board one must in addition be able to think, really the most important qualification of all. Nothing else is required and the benefit which will be derived by any individual will be proportionate to the amount of interest and energy he puts into his task.
