The University tennis season was inauspiciously begun on Divinity Field yesterday with a one-sided victory for Dartmouth, the score in matches being 5 to 1 in favor of the visitors. Dartmouth excelled in every phase of the game and lost one match in the doubles only by a narrow margin. Following is the summary: Singles.--Larmon, Dartmouth, defeated E. B. Benjamin '18, 6 to 4, 10 to 8; Farnum, Dartmouth, defeated F. M. Warburg '19, 6 to 3, 6 to 1; Sanders, Dartmouth, defeated A. A. Claflin '20, 7 to 9, 6 to 3, 6 to 3; Ranney, Dartmouth, defeated A. E. Kirk '20, 6 to 4, 6 to 1. Doubles.--Larmon and Farnum, Dartmouth, defeated E. B. Benjamin '18 and F. M. Warburg '19, 6 to 1, 6 to 3; A. A. Claflin '20 and A. E. Kirk '20 defeated Sanders and Ranney, Dartmouth, 6 to 1, 8 to 6.
This afternoon the University team will oppose M. I. T. on Divinity Field at 3 o'clock. It will be composed as follows: E. B. Benjamin '18, A. A. Claflin '20, A. E. Kirk '20, D. P. Robinson '20, H. G. Trevor, Jr., '20, W. W. Rice '18. On Jarvis Field at the same hour the 1921 players will meet Exeter.
