CAPTAIN MORIZE.

The appointment of Captain Morize as assistant professor of French literature in the University is gratifying news to us all. Especially is it so at this time when the ties of friendship between France and America are firmer and closer than ever before. Our President in France is being shown a remarkable degree of cordial hospitality, which brings a thrill to the heart of every American. If for no other reason than that we would receive Captain Morize with sincere welcome.

But there is another reason for the gratification that we feel at his appointment. From the time the French Military Mission arrived at Cambridge in the spring of 1917, until the United States Government took over the control of military training this fall, Captain Morize had a very large part in the preparation of the R. O. T. C. men for service in the war. Many a University man, trained under his experienced direction, now lies among the honored dead on French soil, or survives among the heroic soldiers of America. Consequently, we feel that he has helped the University to play the proud and leading part which it has been her good fortune to have in the war for freedom.

We welcome Assistant Professor Morize to our midst for his own inestimable worth, for the direct service which he has performed to the University, and for France, the country of his birth.
