GAME STOPPED BY RAIN

FRESHMEN OUT DOORS

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The University baseball squad held their third outdoor practice of the season yesterday. Coach Duffy put the men through the usual warming up practice and then lined them up for a regular nine-inning game, which was cut short at the end of the sixth inning on account of rain. Team A was again victorious, securing a 10 to 3 victory, Ashley and Delano holding the second-string players to three scattered singles. Errors were frequent for both sides, the wet condition of the field and ball being partly accountable for the numerous misplays. Only one change was made in the first team's lineup, Bond starting the game at right field as a result of his hard hitting in Saturday's game.

The batting of Team A in yesterday's practice was especially encouraging, Wiswall and Ashley driving out doubles and Caley having a good day with a single and a hard three-base drive to right field to his credit. Casey also hit well, hammering out two timely base hits. Phinney, Reed and Delano were the other members of Team A to secure hits, each being credited with a single. For the substitutes, West, Ames, and Ward were the only men to register.

Team A started the scoring in the first inning, tallying five runs on doubles by Ashley and Wiswall, and a single by Caley, coupled with Team B's poor fielding, and two passes given by Boyd. G. A. Percy '18, regular right fielder on last year's championship nine, has not yet reported for practice, being a member of Battery A, which will probably be called to the colors shortly.

First Outdoor Practice for 1920

The Freshmen held their first outdoor practice of the year yesterday, Coach Ball treating the men to a practice game on the Freshman diamond, Team I defeating Team II in a six-inning game by a score of 5 to 2. Emmons at shortstop played a fast game for the first-string men, knocking out a pretty triple and also a single. Evans also played well in left field, with two difficult put-outs and a base hit to his credit. Wolverton for Team II had a good afternoon, driving out a double and playing errorless ball at first base. Lancaster and Coolidge for the regulars and Kirk, Sherman and Aspinwall for the substitutes were the only other men to secure hits. Coach Ball drilled the men especially in fielding.
