The University second hockey team gave Exeter the first defeat of its season by the score of 3 to 0 on the Exeter rink Saturday afternoon. All of the scoring came in the second half when the sensational goal guarding of Plimpton, the Exeter goal, who made 12 stops in the first half, gave way before a more strenuous bombardment by the second team forwards. Another factor in Exeter's defeat was the retirement of Captain White, who was compelled to withdraw in the first half after being hit in the mouth by the puck.
The second team's first score came early in the second half when Captain R. J. H. Powel '17 broke away for a fast rush which resulted in a clean goal. He also scored the second in quick order. L. Jackson '19 made the last tally well from the right of the rink.
Lack of team play was manifest in the playing of the Exeter forwards, who frequently lost the puck when well toward their opponents goal. M. Phinney '19 and Captain Powel starred for the seconds, while Freer, Powers and O'Doherty played the most consistent game for Exeter.
The seconds have had a highly successful season thus far, with no defeats and victories over Stone, Milton Academy and Andover to their credit. Their next game is with Arlington High in the Stadium on Wednesday. Arlington High is the only team that has beaten the Freshmen seven this year, taking the opening game of the Freshman season 4 to 2.
The summary: Score--Harvard seconds, 3; Exeter, 0. Goals--Powel (2), Jackson Substations--Jackson for Kissel, Baker for Jackson, Wagner for Cook, Officer for Putnam, Powers for White, Allen for Powers.
