O LET-UP IN PRACTICE FOR STICKMEN IN ARENA

In the first practice since the defeat by Princeton, the University hockey team was given no letup, but was worked steadily for an hour in the Arena yesterday afternoon. The men seemed fairly tired after their New York trip and did not put up a very spirited exhibition of hockey. Coach Winsor let E. O. Baker '17, T. H. Rice '17, and G. Townsend '17 off with about 40 minutes of work, but kept the rest of the squad for the full hour.

Coach Winsor would make no comment in Saturday's defeat but it was obvious that he was very much disappointed and dissatisfied with the outcome of the game. He is starting in, however, to prepare for the contest with the Queen's University team which meets the Crimson seven on Saturday, for although the Canadians have lost many stars because of the war, the University team must improve greatly to be able to defeat them.

Percy Showed Brilliancy,

In spite of the obvious lack of team play in yesterday's scrimmage, there was considerable individual brilliancy. G. A Percy '18 played a hard game for the regulars and his body checking again and again stopped the substituted forward line. He frequently broke loose and skated through team B and on one of these dashed scored a goal, but more often he was stopped by the defence because he had no one to pass to. The other forwards failed to support him and made his work ineffective.

The team gave few exhibitions of work as a unit most of the scrimmage consisting in shinny and futile passing. On one of these flashes however, Captain Morgan and T. K. Fisher '17 carried the puck the length of the rink land the latter, after drawing the goal tender out, passed to Morgan who scored. W. W. Rice '18 prevented a shut-out for the substitutes when a long shot took a lucky bounce over Wylde's stick into the cage.

Only one man stood out among the substitutes as a strong player, that being R. Baldwin '17. He played a game similar to Percy's, hard and aggressive, but also suffered from lack of support.
