The University will be represented by a four-man tennis team against Pennsylvania, on Divinity Field, at 3.30 o'clock this afternoon. The visitors will present a formidable line-up. One of the four will be Willis Davis, formerly of the University of California, and ranking among the very best players on the Pacific Coast. Pennsylvania's record so far this season is a very creditable one.
The following will represent the University this afternoon: Singles--1. Captain R. N. Williams, 2d, '16; 2. G. C. Caner '17; 3. W. Rand, 3d, '17; 4. J. S. Pfaffmann '17. Doubles--1. Williams and Pfaffmann; 2. Caner and Rand.
Dartmouth Defeated Freshmen.
The 1919 tennis team was defeated by the Dartmouth freshmen, 4 to 2, on Divinity Field, yesterday afternoon. The best match was that in which Captain R. C. Rand '19 defeated R. R. Larmon, 6-3, 8-6. The following is the summary: Captain R. C. Rand '19 defeated R. R. Larmon, 6-3, 8-6; W. O. Lyon defeated F. P. Ritchie '19, 6-3, 6-3; W. D. Washburn, Pr., defeated C. J. Coulter '19, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3; R. H. Kissel '19 defeated L. Hanlon, Jr., 7-5, 7-5. Larmon and Lyon defeated Rand and Coulter, 6-3, 2-6, 6-2; Hanlon and Washburn defeated Ritchie and Stevenson, 6-3, 6-3.
Second Team Victorious.
The second team defeated the strong Tufts aggregation, 5 to 1, at Medford, yesterday afternoon. The seconds showed a decided improvement over their last exhibition. The following is the summary: Captain A. S. Peabody '16 defeated Lane, 6-3, 6-1; Crocker defeated E. B. Benjamin '18, 9-7, 6-4; H. Talcott '18 defeated Kraus, 6-3, 6-4; E. B. Benedict '18 defeated Winer, 6-2, 6-1. Peabody and Benjamin defeated Crocker and Kraus, 6-1, 6-4; Talcott and Benedict defeated Lane and Winer, 6-4, 8-6.
Doubles Tournament Continues.
In the continuation of the tournament for the University Championship in Doubles, on Jarvis Field, yesterday afternoon, the following were the results of the matches played: F. Whitlock '16 and H. Morgan '17 defeated L. P. Mansfield '16 and H. L. M. Cole '16, 6-1, 6-1; H. R. Guild '17 and D. Duncan '18 defeated C. J. Prindeville '18 and W. P. Hewitt '18, 6-1, 6-3.
