AMERICAN MERCHANT MARINE SUBJECT FOR PRIZE CONTEST

National Foreign Trade Council Offers $100 and $50 for best Essays by Undergraduate.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

To encourage the study of the problems of creating a greater American merchant marine, the National Foreign Trade Council offers two prizes for the two best essays, written by undergraduates, on the subject of "The Commercial Necessity for Developing Foreign Trade Through an Adequate American Merchant Marine." These two prizes are of $100 and $50 respectively.

The essays may be not less than 3000 and not more than 5000 words in length. Three typewritten copies must be in the hands of the Secretary of the Faculty, University 20, by noon, June 10. Each essay must be signed by a factitious name, and accompanied by a sealed envelope bearing this pen-name typewritten on the outside and with the author's real name inside.

No award will be made unless at least 12 essays are submitted which, in the opinion of the faculty committee awarding the prize, meet such a standard as to give evidence that the purpose of the contest is served.

A copy of each essay submitted will be forwarded to the Secretary of the Council, and the prize-winning essays will be at its disposal for publication. Circulars of the Council containing a partial bibliography may be obtained at the office of the Department of Economics.
