Because of the holiday yesterday, there was no practice for the candidates for the University baseball team. Monday's work-out consisted of a little pitching and some turning to throw to bases. Though the squad was considerably strengthened by E. W. Mahan '16 and R. Harte '17, who reported for the first time, very few candidates have come out. Therefore, Coach Mitchell has issued another call for candidates. Pitchers from the classes of 1917 and 1918 are especially needed. No previous experience is necessary, and failure in having reported before will be no handicap. Under the new system which Coach Mitchell has introduced, the rudiments of pitching can be learned much more quickly by those who have had no experience than under the old style of instruction.
The battery candidates for the Freshman nine will report to Coach Ball in the Cage this afternoon at 3 o'clock. The fielding candidates will be called out in about a week.
