The Seniors defeated the Freshmen, and the Juniors vanquished the Sophomores in the relay races at the Winter Carnival yesterday. In the interdormitory contest, Smith won an easy victory leading from start to finish. Gore defeated Standish after a hard fight for second place.
The best of the relay races was that won by the Seniors over the Freshmen. Cummings got the lead at the start and the 1919 men increased their advantage to some twenty yards. Rollins, running fifth, cut that in two, and Biddle, the Seniors' eighth man, passed Casey and gave the 1916 team a commanding lead. The time was 7 minutes 12 seconds, better than that of the Juniors by 2 1-5 seconds. The Juniors and the Sophomores were close together in the first part of this race, but the last 1917 runners opened up a big lead, winning in 7 minutes 14 2-5 seconds.
The 12-lap race resulted in an exceedingly close finish between the two scratch men, for J. Coggeshall '18 won after passing R. D. Campbell '17 on the third corner of the last lap.
The final interclass relay race today sees 1916 and 1917 competing for the championship for the second time and the last laps should be unusually fast.
