Denied Winter Campus Housing, International Students Scramble to Find Alternative Options
The interdormitory relay race will open the Winter Carnival on the board track this afternoon at 3.45 o'clock. It was found necessary to change the time of the first event, which had previously been scheduled three-quarters of an hour earlier.
There is much rivalry between the interclass relay teams, which will run later in the afternoon. The winners of today's races will meet in the finals tomorrow to decide the championship. Last year the class of 1917 came in ahead, but this season all the teams appear quite evenly matched and the contests should develop into the leading feature of the meet. Ten men will run on each team, covering two laps apiece. The captain of the Senior team is W. J. Bingham '16, of the Junior team, W. Willcox, Jr., '17. J. Coggeshall '18 will lead the Sophomores and H. C. Flower '19 the Freshmen.
Six men will compete in the races between the Freshmen dormitories, the following captains having been made responsible for their teams: C. S. Swan '19, for Gore; J. W. Cummings '19, for Smith, and C. W. Cook '19 for Standish.
Today's events are scheduled as follows:
3.45.--Interdormitory relay.
3.55.--12-lap race.
4.15.--40-yard dash (handicap).
4.25.--Interclass relay (handicap).
4.30.--Pole-vault and shot put.
5.00.--35-pound weight.
Silver medals will be given to the winners of first places, while bronze ones are to be awarded for seconds and thirds. All competitors must have taken strength tests since the Christmas recess, and those who have not yet done so should report at the Gymnasium today, between 2 and 3 o'clock. Additional men will be given a chance to enter the meet this afternoon, even though they have not yet signed up in the bluebooks. Handicaps will be given out before the start of each race.
