Yale has admitted the illegality of her victory in the 440-yard swimming relay for the national intercollegiate championship, held last April under the auspices of the Chicago Athletic Association. Northwestern University, which finished in second place, will be declared the winner, and the medals, held until now by the Yale men, will be surrendered to the members of the Northwestern team.
The University of Chicago called attention to the fact soon after the race that Yale had allowed two freshmen to swim on her team, and had thus broken not only her own rules but likewise the regulations of the Western Conference. The Yale Board of Athletic Control investigated the matter and finding the charges justified, ordered that the medals and the trophy be returned.
