The first meeting of the University fencing squad proved a success for a large squad reported for practice. More candidates are needed, however, and they are to report between 4 and 6.30 o'clock today in the fencing room of the Hemenway Gymnasium. No experience is necessary and Freshmen are especially urged to report.
The prospects of the team this year are excellent as two of the last year's team have returned, Captain W. H. Russell '18, national swords' champion, and G. H. Code '18, but E. P. Hamilton '18 is still in Mexico. There are several Sophomores who have shown promise, especially R. G. Crimmins '19, E. Gay '19 and C. E. Hodges '19.
The coaching is being done again this year by Professor J. Leslabay, assisted by ex-Captains S. F. Damon '14 and T. J. Putnam '15.
The registration of the University Law School this year, with a total of 839, is the largest on record.
