Practice for the University football team yesterday afternoon took the form of a stiff 60-minute scrimmage, in which the University squad secured three touchdowns and a field goal to one touchdown for the seconds, the final score being 24 to 6.
The first score came soon after the opening of the scrimmage, when W. F. Robinson '18, after a fair catch on a short punt from the seconds, put over a beautiful field goal from placement from the 25-yard line. A few minutes later H. C. Flower '19 made the second score for the first team, carrying the ball over from the 15-yard line for a touchdown, while Robinson kicked the goal.
Third Score Easy.
When the ball was again put in scrimmage, an exchange of punts and a fumble left the ball in the possession of the second team on their own 5-yard line. An attempt to punt out of danger resulted in gaining only 15 yards for the scrubs, and the University eleven had no difficulty in opening a hole through which T. C. Thacher, Jr., '18, plowed his way to a touchdown, Robinson again kicking the goal. After this score the ball was put in scrimmage again near the middle of the field. Twice the University eleven tried line plays, and then punted. E. Ginn received the ball for the seconds, running it back to the 45-yard line, where E. H. Ellison '17 punted for the seconds. Another line play and then Flower went back for a punt. But the second team ends broke through, blocking the kick, and recovering the ball on the University's 20-yard line. Four downs, however, found them still with 5 yards to go, and the ball went to the University.
University B was sent in at this point and started a drive which carried them to the second's 35-yard line, where E. L. Casey '19 fumbled. L. P. Jacobs '17 recovered the ball, worked free and carried it 60 yards down the field for the first score the seconds have succeeded in making against the University this season.
The last score came just before the close of practice, when after a steady advance down the field, Horween carried the ball over the line and kicked the goal.
