A special foundation of $10,000 has been created in memory of Arthur Howe Pingree '90, of Norwood, for the purpose of training leaders of boys, particularly Scout Masters and assistant Scout Masters, who are preparing to render service among growing boys, in the interest of a high quality of manhood and citizenship. The foundation is to be held by the Trustees of Boston University and expended by them in accordance with the judgment of the Board of Directors. It is the purpose of this memorial to provide a course of lectures on the theory and practice of Boy Scout leadership which shall include both classroom and also field work under the supervision of Boston University and the Greater Council of the Boy Scouts of America. In carrying out this purpose the Board of Directors shall observe the following conditions:
First: The income of the fund shall be used to provide annually for a course of at least ten lectures for the training of Boy Scout Leaders.
Second: The principal of the fund may be used at the discretion of the Directors, at any time to aid in carrying out the purpose of this endowment.
Third: Whenever in the judgment of the Board of Directors, the purpose of this endowment as above stated no longer serves the largest interests of the community, the fund of this endowment may be directed to such other use as in the opinion of the Board of Directors shall fulfil the general purpose of training leaders of boys.
The Board of Directors shall consist of three members: one member of Mr. Pingree's family; one member of the Greater Boston Council, Boy Scouts of America; and one representative of Boston University. Whenever there is a vacancy on the board, the remaining members shall elect a new member to fill such vacancy. Such new member shall, if possible, represent the institution or organization, whose representative has caused the vacancy. But if, for any reason, such institution or organization cannot continue to be represented on the board, the vacancy shall be filled by any person whom the remaining members may at their discretion elect.
