In view of the closeness of last year's race and the rumoured disagreement of the judges, the provision for a single judge is a necessary if belated change. With it should go more care in the selection of the judge and his assistant than has always been the case. A close finish may occur at any time and it is better to be prepared for it before than to argue about it afterward.

Another important clause in the agreement is that providing for the continuance of the second eight-oared race. Although at first opposed by the University, this race seems to many desirable in that it gives more men a chance to row in the final contest.
