The Union Boat Club crew nosed out a victory over the first Senior crew by a margin of scarcely two feet on the river yesterday. The race started just below the Cottage Farm Bridge and ended at the Harvard Bridge, making a distance of about one mile. The Union boat got the start and held a lead of about a quarter of a length until 200 yards before the finish when the Senior eight put up their stroke and took a slight lead, which was lost, however, in the last few strokes.
The crews rowed as follows:
Senior crew.-Stroke, A. Fisher; 7, H. Parkman; 6, E. Reynolds, Jr.; 5, H. W. Schroeder; 4, H. R. Hilliard; 3, L. Baylies; 2, J. M. Graham; bow, A. O. Hoyt; cox., E. A. Peoples.
Union Boat Club.-Stroke, W. T. Gardiner '14; 7, L. Saltonstall '14; 6, L. Withington, Jr., '11; 5, L. R. Phillips, Cornell '12; 4, P. Withington '09; 3, G. R. Fergeson, Cornell '12; 2, C. W. Peabody '12; bow, E. Harding '10; cox., C. T. Abeles '13.
The Union Boat Club has announced that it will send a crew to the American Henley regatta on May 22.
The first and second Freshman boats also raced practically a dead heat over a mile course yesterday
