Owing to the fact that one of the coaching launches was disabled yesterday, the fifth and sixth Freshman crews were not sent out on the river from Weld as had been planned. They will be sent out on Monday and will be the first eights put out from Weld this season.
The remainder of the 12 Freshman crews will be sent out next week by twon and it is expected they will all be on the river before Saturday.
A. W. Pope who has been rowing at 7 on the first Freshman boat has strained his back and will be laid off for a few days. J. Olyphant has taken his place. The first four 1918 boats were out yesterday and rowed up-stream to the Watertown Arsenal. Coach Wray coached the men from the "Pup."
The following is the make-up of the first four boats:
First crew.--Stroke, Taylor; 7, Quimby; 6, Olyphant; 5, Nathan; 4, Davis; 3, Mackie; 2, Parker; bow, Brazer; cox., Place.
Second crew.--Stroke, Wiggin; 7, Knauth; 6, Burr; 5, Williams; 4, Read; 3, Morgan; 2, Franklin; bow, Dickey; cox., Franklin.
Third crew.--Stroke, Lund; 7, Osborne; 6, Holt; 5, Gray; 4, Cabot; 3, Richardson; 2, Harrower; bow, Putnam; cox., Brunswick.
Fourth crew.--Stroke, Simonds; 7, Allen; 6, MacDonell; 5, Briggs; 4, Storer; 3, Fisher; 2, Gundry; bow, Balch; cox., Hawkins.
Change in Junior Crew.
The University and second crews were out on the river yesterday and rowed up to the Watertown dam and back. The class crews were also out, all going upstream except the Junior crew, which rowed down to the Cambridge Bridge. The Junior and Sophomore class fouroars are now organized and were out for practice yesterday. Curtis replaced Volkman at five in the Junior crew, Volkmann going to number three in the Junior four-oar.
