Hockey practice at Yale started Wednesday when 114 candidates reported for the university and freshman sevens. The men will be given conditioning runs this afternoon, and tomorrow practice on the rink will begin. The rink, being in New Haven, gives a much greater chance for steady practice than formerly, and wit a good nucleus from last year's squad, Yale should develop a strong team. The regulars who are back this season are Captain Burgess and Dickey, forwards; Bierworth and Murray, defence; and York, goal. Other likely candidates are Gould, Armour, and Jacobs from the 1918 freshman team; Speigle and Washburn, who were unable to play last year; and Benner, who was kept out by injuries.
A new policy will be adopted this season in keeping a larger squad on the rink for a longer period. Class games will be held as last year after the squad is cut.
The tentative schedule is announced as follows--January 12, Mass. Aggies at New Haven; January 15, Tech at New Haven; January 19, Princeton at New York; January 22, Dartmouth at Boston; February 7, Dartmouth at New Haven; February 12, Harvard at Boston; February 16, Princeton at New Haven; February 19, Williams at New Haven; February 23, Princeton at New Haven (incase of tie); February 26, Harvard at New Haven; March 4, Harvard at Boston (incase of tie).
Three practice games are also scheduled for the Christmas vacation.
