For a majority of the eastern elevens the so-called preliminary season is brought to an end with today's contests. All of the remaining teams on the University eleven's schedule should have little difficulty in defeating their opponents. In the West, the Conference seasons will be in full swing with six of the teams playing among themselves. Since Northwestern has already lost to a conference team, Chicago, only five elevens will remain in the running for the little after this afternoon's games.
Yale Meets Open Attack
Yale will be called upon to face a wide-open offense in the Springfield game. Springfield came to the Stadium last year and though losing, 44 to 0, came dangerously near scoring through a varied attack of forward passes and open formations. Despite the many injuries suffered by Yale in last week's game a stronger line-up will be presented than heretofore.
Princeton meets Lafayette. The latter's record has not been such as to indicate a strong opposition to Princeton's well-known defensive strength. Lafayette has defeated Muhlenberg and Ursinus losing to Washington and Jefferson. Cornell should be able to defeat Buck nell without much trouble. The former's early season schedule has not been a difficult one and as a result we will have received no real test before the Harvard game next Saturday.
The other two teams on the University's schedule, Penn. State and Brown play Gettysburg and Williams, respectively. Penn. State should have little difficulty in winning, but Brown may lose to Williams for both have appeared equally weak-to date.
Import Games in West
The conference elevens will engage in several important contests today. The 1914 champions, Illinois, are scheduled to play Ohio state, a team which ranked only sixth in the Conference last year. Wisconsin and Purdue meet in their annual contest with the odds favoring the former, while Chicago should defeat Indiana. Minnesota does not play a Conference team South Dakota being today's opponents.
