Denied Winter Campus Housing, International Students Scramble to Find Alternative Options
More candidates are wanted for the Freshman relay and track teams. The work this winter is very important in developing material for a successful spring season and affords the coaches their first opportunity of getting a line on the men. Only 8 candidates for the relay team reported. If the team is to be successful at least 35 more men should try for it. There is a dearth of material for the field events, and of that in evidence, little is promising. All members of the class of 1918 who are not engaged in some form of winter sport are urged to report to Coaches Donovan and Powers at Soldiers Field this afternoon before 4.30 o'clock. No previous experience is necessary.
There are not enough University candidates for the field events, men with any aptitude for the broad and high jumps, the shot-put or the pole-vault being especially in demand. The first tryout for the University relay team will be in the Coast Artillery games on January 23, and regular practice on the part of all candidates is essential if a successful team is to be developed.
