A STATE UNIVERSITY?

At the last session of the Massachusetts Legislature, a resolution was passed authorizing the Board of Education to investigate the subject of founding a state university. Inasmuch as there are already fifteen or sixteen collegiate institutions in the state, a state university would be an unnecessary duplication of equipment. As the current issue of the Alumni Bulletin points out, a much more efficient method would be the appropriation of scholarships by the state. This would not be nearly so expensive as the upkeep of many of the western state universities. The extension courses conducted by the University and various other institutions throughout the state have helped largely to fill this place.
