President Lowell's announcement that a plan is to be worked out by which Freshmen may "eat around," has met with general approval in the class and among those who are interested in the success of the Freshman dormitories.
It became evident early in the year that the system of compelling a man to eat in his own dormitory and forbidding him to eat in any other tended to divide the class into three groups. There were Smith men, Gore men and Standish men. At meal time, the time above all others when all the class should be free to meet and mingle, it was divided into three distinct parts.
The problem of instituting a system by which Smith men may eat at Gore, or Gore men at Standish is no small one. Now it is being worked out, in the interests of class unity. The members of 1918, for their own sakes and the sakes of future Freshman classes should do all in their power to co-operate with the authorities in solving the difficulty. It rests with them whether "eating around" is to be feasible.
