Phi Beta Kappa, Alpha of Massachusetts, crowned itself with laurel and avenged its former reverses of fortune, when it defeated the Yale chapter in the annual game on Soldiers Field Saturday afternoon. Broad-browed scholars who, though familiar with Newton's laws of motion, had never before tried the effect of willow on horse-hide, rose to the occasion and mashed the pill into a pulp. The result,--six runs in the first inning and seven more in the course of the game, while the visitors could barely nose out ten tallies. The features of the contest were Gilday's screaming homer to left, and an all-but-double-play, Anderson to Gilday, which was marred only by umpire Brown's calling the runner safe at second.
