BASEBALL MEN WORK OUTDOORS

All University Candidates Practice in Mud.--1917 Out Monday.

The University baseball squad held its first outdoor practice of the season yesterday afternoon on the second team diamond. Practically all the candidates reported, enabling Coach Sexton to see the work of everyone under actual playing conditions.

Fielding and batting practice took up most of the afternoon, the outfielders getting their first real workout. The infielders tried their accustomed positions, each man playing for a few minutes at a time in order to give all the competitors a chance. Captain D. J. P. Wingate '14, at shortstop, and R. R. Ayres '15 at first base were the only veterans at their regular positions.

Freshmen to Report.

Practice for Freshman baseball will begin Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock when all candidates for battery and fielding are to report to Coach Henry Reeves at the Cage. Coach Reeves who drilled last year's Freshman team has been engaged for this season also and from now on will have charge of the Freshman squad.
