FALL CRIMSON COMPETITIONS

Men in the class of 1915 who desire to become candidates for the news and business boards of the CRIMSON should report in the CRIMSON Office Monday evening at 7.30 o'clock. Men from the class of 1914 who desire to enter the editorial competition should report at the same time. Competitions for the class of 1914 will not begin until shortly after mid-years.

The business manager's competition, from which two men will be chosen as assistant business managers, was started Thursday, but inasmuch as the number of men to report was far below the average, a second call has been issued. Any men who desire a practical training in all sorts of business dealings will be given a chance to show their usefulness in the office, in managing the details of publication, and in soliciting subscriptions and advertisements. The work required is similar to that required by the business boards of other college papers, and general efficiency is given weight in the choice of managers as well as ability to get advertisements. The business manager will give a detailed outline of the work at the meeting Monday evening.

News Candidates.

Four editors have already been chosen from the class of 1915, leaving places on the board for at least six more men, who will be taken from the news competitions of this year. The work required is work such as is demanded on the public newspapers and gives a practical training in all branches of newspaper work. The competition is hard, but teaches accuracy and concentration in a practical way that is invaluable. The broad insight into College activities which a news competition gives is also one of its useful ends. It is hoped that a large and representative number of men will report.

Editorial Writers.

The editorial competition which starts at the same time, is a comparatively new system whereby it is hoped to get men for the CRIMSON who can best represent in the editorial column the public opinion of the College. They will be expected to write about two editorials a week and will be judged for the common sense and interest shown in their editorials as well as for the character of the English.

There are many men in College who are anxious to "do something" outside of their regular work, yet unable for one reason or another to be successful in College athletics. To these men the above competitions are offered which test the staying qualities and determination, and lead one to a seriously congenial atmosphere of business activity.
