Seventeen men reported at the first practice for fielding candidates for the University baseball team in the Cage yesterday afternoon. These were men who were left on the squad at the close of practice last fall, who were playing football in the fall, or who have received special permission from Captain Potter. Members of last year's team, however, did not come out, but they will report on Monday. With them and a few others who could not report yesterday, the fielding squad will number about 30 men. In addition there is the battery squad of 15 men.
Coach Sexton and Captain Potter directed yesterday's practice. It consisted of a 40-minute batting practice and 20 minutes of fielding drill.
