SHUT-OUT FOR TECHNOLOGY

In a ragged contest in the Arena last evening the University hockey team defeated Technology 4 to 0. Harvard clearly outplayed its opponents, and though the work of the team was at times conspicuously crude and unfinished, on the whole the showing was encouraging. Occasional brilliant dashes down the ice and displays of team-work uncovered a powerful offence, which has not yet reached its full development, while the defence played a masterly game throughout. Willetts was particularly brilliant in breaking up Technology rushes. The University forwards played well together at times, the three goals scored in the first half being the result of clever passing and dodging. During the greater part of the game, however, there was little concerted rushing and considerable individual playing. The forwards showed a tendency to rove all over the rink and get out of line.

The first score came shortly after the beginning of the game when Hopkins made a perfect pass from the side of the rink to Sortwell, who scored from directly in front of the goal. A few minutes later Phillips got the puck in mid-rink and eluding several Technology men, carried it within range of the goal, where he made a remarkable pass to Sortwell just as he was falling, the latter scoring. Excellent team-work figured in the third goal which Phillips caged on a dashing attack of the whole forward line, near the end of the half.

The second half opened with a rush and three seconds after the opening Smart, who had replaced Morgan at right wing, caged the puck from a scrimmage in front of the Technology goal. With this lead the regulars were taken out and during the rest of the period honors were about even with little good hockey in evidence.
