TEMPORARY FOOTBRIDGEDONE

Old Boylston Street Bridge Will be Blocked After Tomorrow.

The temporary footbridge, to be used during the demolition of the old Stadium bridge and the erection of the new structure, will be completed today. Beginning tomorrow the approaches to the Stadium bridge will be blocked and vehicles will have to cross the river at the Western avenue or Arsenal bridges. Signs will be posted to this effect on the various roads leading to the old bridge.

The temporary bridge for the accommodation of pedestrians is located about half way between the Weld and Newell boathouse. A board walk approach ahs been built from the river boulevard to the bridge on the Cambridge side.

It is planned to demolish the old bridge a section at a time, laying the foundations for the new structure in correspondingly short stretches. Three huge pile-drivers will be used in this work. It will require several months. The new bridge will not be ready for use before the football season next fall, and as the temporary footbridge is only eight feet wide, the accommodation of the crowds at the spring track meets and baseball games will involve considerable difficulty.
