The Freshman track team was defeated by Phillips Exeter Academy at Exeter, yesterday afternoon, by the score of 74 to 32. All of the track events were done in good time, the feature being the work of Bingham, of Exeter, who had the unusual distinction of winning first place in the 100-yard dash and the 880-yard run. Exeter won every place in the one-mile run, pole-vault, and broad jump.
In the 220-yard hurdles, Jackson had a lead of three yards until the last hurdle, with Freeman running second. Jackson tripped on the hurdle and Freeman was disqualified for running around a hurdle, thus giving Hyatt, of Exeter, first place and Jackson second. Freeman won the 120-yard hurdles in easy fashion. Worthington, of Exeter, who finished second, and Jackson, who was third, were disqualified for knocking down three hurdles. In the field events, Worthington, of Exeter, made the best performance, jumping 21 feet, 4 inches, in the broad jump. Howard had little difficulty in winning the 12-pound hammer-throw with a throw of 163 feet 7 1-2 inches.
