Freshman Defeated Cambridge Latin

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The Freshman football team was given a hard scrimmage with the Cambridge Latin School eleven yesterday afternoon, scoring two touchdowns and securing a goal from the field. Preceding the scrim-make the whole squad was given practice in starting. The backs were then given punting and catching practice while the linemen were drilled in blocking and breaking through.

In the scrimmage with Cambridge Latin School, the latter was given the ball near the middle of the field but the Freshman defence proved strong and the ball went to the 1915 team on downs. The latter then started down the field and after several brilliant runs by Hardwick reached the 20-yard line. At this point they were unable to gain in two downs and deWindt kicked a drop-goal from the field.

Cambridge Latin was again given the ball in the middle of the field but was unable to gain, and the ball went to the Freshmen on downs. From here they soon made their first touchdown, Brickley scoring on a plunge through tackle. An entirely new Freshman team was then put in and although not as strong as the first eleven succeeded in scoring one more touchdown, by Temple.

Again numerous substitutions were made in the Freshman team after which Cambridge Latin was able to gain more consistently. The offensive work of the third-string 1915 backs was very weak. The work of the Freshman team was encouraging, for so early in the season. The backfields of the first two teams were strong, Hardwick and Brickley playing particularly well.
