The University football team will play Amherst on Soldiers Field this afternoon at 3 o'clock.
This week's practice for the University team has been very satisfactory though there have been but two scrimmages. Captain Fisher has been out of the game all the week, and in order not to take any chances with a slightly bruised knee, he will not enter the game today, though he will be able to play if necessary. There will be several other changes in the line-up from last week's game with Williams. Felton will start at left end where Howard played, Keays will take Fisher's place, Reynolds will play for Campbell, and Bettle will take Blackall's place at fullback.
Last year Amherst was defeated 17 to 0. With seven of last year's men in today's line-up Amherst should play a good game. Captain Madden at left end is an excellent drop-kicker and is depended on to score a goal from the field if his team can carry the ball within striking distance. Amherst has played three games this year. In the first, Springfield Training School was surprised with a defeat, 3 to 0. Next Wesleyan played a 0 to 0 tie, and then, last Saturday, Trinity startled her by winning out, 13 to 0. The team is in a rather crippled condition by reason of injuries, but is fast and aggressive and should give a good account of itself.
Yesterday's Practice.
The work of the University team yesterday afternoon was very light. The men were given a twenty-minute signal drill and then lined up against each other for a dummy scrimmage. This lasted for an hour and a half and was occupied with running off plays from new formations and with light offensive and defensive work for both teams. The team has been showing unexpected speed during the week's work and did some very snappy work yesterday.
The line-ups: Referee--W. S. Langford, Trinity. Umpire--W. H. Burke, W. P. I. Head linesman--G. N. Bankhart, Dartmouth, Field judge--K. C. Morse, Dartmouth. Time--Four 12-minute periods.
