Although the long deferred decision of the War Department concerning the proposed new bridge across the Charles is that the structure must contain a draw, it is, nevertheless, an encouraging sign, for the chief obstacle in the way of its erection has been the prolonged failure of the government to reach any decision whatever. Another indication that the subject is finally attracting the attention of those in control of the navigable inland waterways of our country, is that Congressman McCall has introduced a bill into the House of Representatives to reverse the decision of the War Department. The only cause for doubting the excellence of this action from the Harvard standpoint is the possibility that further delay may result. The wish in the minds of graduates and undergraduates of the University is for a safe and suitable bridge, draw or no draw.
