The Carroll Cup race for single sculls will be held at 5 o'clock this afternoon over a one-mile course in the Basin. The race will start from the B. A. A. boat-house, about a hundred yards below Harvard Bridge, and will finish at the Cottage Farm Bridge. No man who is on probation or who has not passed a strength test this spring will be eligible to row. Unless the water is very smooth, the race will be postponed.
Second Crew Leaves for Philadelphia.
The second University crew will leave tonight on the Federal Express for Philadelphia, where it will row in the eighth annual Henley Regatta of the American Rowing Association, to be held on the Schuylkill River Saturday. The men will stop at the Aldine Hotel and will practice in both the morning and afternoon tomorrow. On Saturday afternoon, the crew will race twice over the Henley course of one-mile and 550 yards. One race will be for the Stewards' Challenge Cup, and the other will be the New England Challenge Cup race for junior collegiate eights, in which it will row against the junior collegiate crews of Columbia, Georgetown, and Pennsylvania. Besides the regular members of the crew, Leslie will go as substitute, and also assistant manager Iselin. Coach Wray will leave for Philadelphia tomorrow night. The Union Boat Club of Boston is also sending a crew, composed chiefly of old Harvard oarsmen, to compete in this regatta. The second University crew will row in the following order: stroke, Forster; 7, Metcalf; 6, Strong; 5, Hooper; 4, Smith; 3, Loring; 2, Waite; bow, Wiggins; cox., Voorhees.
