CHANGES IN CREW ORDERS

Cutler Replaced Newton in University Boat.--Work of Other Crews.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

An important change was made in the order of the University crew yesterday when Cutler replaced Newton at stroke, Strong taking Cutler's place at 6, while Newton went in at 6 in the second crew where Strong has been rowing. Newton is on probation. Owing to the warm weather of last week which broke up the ice in the river the crews were able to get out last Monday, and since then the work has consisted of short paddles up-stream every day, Coach Wray following the boats in a single.

For the first two days the order of the University eight remained unchanged and the work appeared fairly smooth. The stern five especially worked fairly well together, but the three bow men were noticeably more ragged and not in swing with the rest of the crew. On Wednesday Bacon was forced to stop rowing on account of a sprained ankle, Metcalf replacing him at 5. G. H. Balch '12, who has recovered from his sickness, returned to College on Wednesday and took Metcalf's place at 7 in the second crew. The progress of the University crew has been retarded during the week by the changes made necessary yesterday and Wednesday. The work of the second and third University crews has steadily improved since the first day out. In the latter part of the week a four-oar has replaced the fourth crew as many of the men are sick.

The orders:

University, crew.--Stroke, Cutler; 7, Waid; 6, Strong; 5, Metcalf; 4, Withington; 3, Hooper; 2, Leslie; bow, Sargent; cox., King.

Second crew.--Stroke, Forster; 7, Balch; 6, Newton; 5, L. Smith; 4, Waite; 3, Loring; 2, Maxwell; bow, Whitney; cox., Fales.

Third crew.--Stroke, Trumbull; 7, Holt; 6, M. Peabody; 5, Beane; 4; Cudahy; 3, Anderson; 2, C. Peabody; bow, Wiggins; cox., Kempton.

Four-oar.--Stroke, Parker; 3, Jowett; 2, Fowler; bow, Shillito; cox., Strauss.

Work of Freshman Crews.

During the week six Freshman crews have been put on the river but only the first two crews have made any noticeable progress. The first Freshman crew has shown good promise of developing eventually into as good a crew as has been the standard for the past five years. The stern four is composed of heavy men and is rowing fairly well together, although the bow four is not so good, and changes seem very likely. Coach Wray is taking charge of the first two crews, while the rest of the squad is under Coaches Brown and Stevenson. D. C. Fales '11, who coxswained the 1911 Freshman crew, has been temporarily appointed to fill the place left vacant by E. C. Bacon '10, who had general charge of the Freshman squad.

The order:

Freshman crew.--Stroke, Goodale; 7, Parmenter; 6, Cutler; 5, Keays; 4, Lincoln; 3, Roosevelt; 2, Weston; bow, Stratton; cox., Brownlee.
