The subject for the Harvard-Yale Freshman debate at New Haven on Friday evening, April 29, is: "Resolved, That the United States should adopt a system of subsidies, other than our present mail subsidies, for the encouragement of our Merchant Marine." Harvard has until next Monday to decide which side of the question it will defend. The preliminary trials will be held on Wednesday when each man will speak for five minutes. As many men as prove valuable in the judgment of the committee will be retained. All men wishing to try for the team must hand in their names to R. H. Smith '10, Stoughton 24, before 7 o'clock tomorrow. From the second trial on next Friday, at which ten-minute speeches will be delivered, 12 men will be chosen, and from the third trial of ten-minute speeches on next Monday, six men will be retained, three of whom will be picked by the judges to debate against Yale.
