New Exhibition in Fogg Museum

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

A loan exhibition of early Italian paintings has now replaced the Ruskin exhibition in the Fogg Museum, although several of the Ruskin drawings are still on exhibition in the Photograph Room. The exhibition of Italian paintings will last about two or three months.

A fine Madonna and Child attributed to Ghirlandaio has been received from Radcliffe College. There are also seven paintings which formerly belonged to Professor Norton, which have been loaned by the Misses Norton. Two of these have been attributed to Tintoretto: one is a large painting of a woman playing a lute and the other is a portrait. A large painting of the Adoration of the Shepherds, perhaps by Bonifazio Veneziano, is a good example of Venetian color. There are three other Venetian portraits and an early Siennese Madonna and Child with saints by Sano di Pietro. An attractive little Annunciation by Lorenzo di Credi is loaned by Mr. W. E. C. Eustis. There is also loaned by Mrs. Louis Cabot, Mr. Augustus Hemenway and Mr. W. E. C. Eustis, a Florentine painting of the Madonna and Child with two saints, executed in the manner of Ghirlandaio. It has suffered in parts from age and restoration, but still has elements of great beauty. There are two interesting paintings from the collection of Mr. C. B. Perkins, both representing the Holy Family. One is attributed to Zaganelli and the other to Bonifazio Veneziano. The Boston Museum of Fine Arts has presented an early Flemish copy of Michel Angelo's famous Holy Family, in the Uffizi Gallery.
