In the first crew practice of the year, yesterday afternoon, four boats were organized. The first three worked on the machines; and the fourth one rowed in the tank. It is now planned to have each crew row in the tank once a week.
Coach Wray has completely recovered from his illness and has taken complete charge of the University crew candidates. In the first boat Metcalf was in Waid's place at 7 and Sargent moved to bow to replace Balch who was sick. Leslie took Sargent's place at 2.
The order was as follows: stroke, Newton; 7, Metcalf; 6, Cutler; 5, Bacon; 4, Withington; 3, Hooper; 2, Leslie; bow, Sargent.
Freshman Crew Practice.
About 60 candidates reported for Freshman crew practice yesterday afternoon. The material was very light and unpromising; and another call for candidates has been issued. The work consisted entirely of rowing on the machines.
The order of the first crew was: stroke, Goodale; 7, Moffat; 6, Cutler; 5, Keays; 4, Lincoln; 3, Stratton; 2, Weston; bow, Roosevelt.
