F. HOPKINSON SMITH IN UNION

Will Give Lecture on "Old Plantation Days" in Living Room at 8.

Mr. F. Hopkinson Smith, the well-known artist and author, will lecture on "Old Plantation Days" in the Living Room of the Union this evening at 8 o'clock. Only members of the Union will be admitted.

Mr. Smith first worked as a clerk, later became a civil engineer, but after several years spent in mechanical construction he gave up the profession and took up those of artist and author. He has executed a great deal of landscape painting and has also lectured on art subjects. In 1901 he was awarded a medal at the Pan-American Exposition, and later received medals from the Philadelphia Art Club and the American Art Society, and the Charleston Exposition.

Mr. Smith's delightful short stories and novels are widely known and read. Among the best are "Col. Carter, of Cartersville," "Gondola Days," "The Under Dog," "Col. Carter's Christmas" and "The Wood Fire in No. 3."
