Freshmen Lost to Andover, 5 to 0

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The Freshman football team was defeated by Phillips Andover Academy at Andover Saturday afternoon, 5 to 0. The game was played in a drizzle which greatly increased the difficulty of handling the ball. Mahan outpunted Reynolds throughout the game, and the work of the Andover ends in getting down the field and tackling the runner was far superior to the work of the Freshman ends. Several of Reynolds's punts were run back from 15 to 20 yards.

The Freshmen made but three first downs. Near the opening of the first period Reynolds made 25 yards through a broken field before he was thrown, and at the end of the final period Sortwell made a gain of 37 yards. The Freshmen played a good defensive game, holding Andover for downs four times inside the 10-yard line.

Andover's touchdown came at the beginning of the second period after a steady advance from the 25-yard line. Inside the 10-yard line the Freshmen held twice but on the third down Sawyer went outside right tackle for a touchdown. Rogers failed to kick the goal. Rogers made four attempts at goals from the field, none of which was successful. The Andover goal-line was never in danger.

Andover tried the forward pass only once, and failed. The Freshmen did not attempt the play.
