Several excellent performances were made in the second half of the track and field event competitions held in the Baseball Cage yesterday afternoon. The final heat of the 30-yard low hurdles, which was declared a tie on Monday, was run over and won by J. P. Long '11 in an extremely close finish. J. K. Lewis '11 was second, and A. Sweeter '11, third.
C. C. Little '10 won the running broad-jump, and tied for first place with W. M. Parker '12 in the standing 38-pound weight-throw for height. Parker won the 38-pound weight-throw for distance. S. C. Lawrence '10 secured first place in the running high jump from scratch.
A number of men have made good performances in the two days of competition. J. P. Long '11 won both hurdle events and took second place in the broad jump. C. C. Little '10 and W. M. Parker '12 are each credited with two firsts, while H. L. Goddard '10, L. C. Torrey '12, and S. C. Lawrence '10 won the only three events in which they were entered, J. K. Lewis '11 ran second in the two hurdle races. Cups were awarded to the winners of first and second places.
The summary of yesterday's events is as follows:
30-yard low hurdles--Final heat won by J. P. Long '11; second, J. K. Lewis '11; third, A. Sweetser '11.
Running broad jump -- Won by S. C. Lawrence '10; second, J. Wheelright '10; third, H. H. Heath '11.
Running broad jump--Won by C. C. Little '10; second, J. P. Long '11; third, G. N. Phillips '13.
38-pound weight-throw for distance--Won by W. M. Parker '12; second, B. D. Hodges '10; third, O. M. Chadwick '11.
Standing 38-pound weight-throw for height--Tie for first between C. C. Little '10 and W. M. Parker '12; tie for third between O. M. Chadwick '11 and W. K. Blodgett '11.
