The Freshmen defeated the Sophomores in the first game of the interclass basketball series last evening by the score of 21 to 9. From the start the game was characterized by roughness. For the greater part of the first half the score was close. Then the Freshmen secured a decided lead by better team-play and more accurate shooting. Several times the Sophomores lost chances, to score on account of poor goal throwing. Sullivan excelled for the Freshmen, making 15 points, and developing fine team-work with Forestall. For the Sophomore team Smith played a hard and fast game.

At the beginning of the second half the Sophomores began to gain on the Freshmen, but were unable to overcome the lead.

The summary follows: 1913.  1912. Sullivan, Gantz, r.f.  l.g., Knapp Duff, l.f.  r.g., Browne Keller, c.  c., Smith Blake, r.g.  l.f., Rouillard Forestall, Sullivan, l.g.  r.f., Boyd

Score--1913, 21; 1912, 9. Goals from the floor--Sullivan 5, Keller 2, Forestall, Smith, Rouillard, Boyd. Goals from fouls--Sullivan 5, Boyd 3. Referee--J. Wright, of Cambridge. Timekeeper--K. B. Day '11. Time--20 and 15-minute halves.

The second game of the series will be played between the Seniors and Juniors in the Hemenway Gymnasium this evening at 7.30 o'clock. The chances seem to be in favor of the Junior team, as it is the same that won the interclass championship a year ago.
