The first trials for the Freshman debating team which will meet Yale 1912 on April 30 will be held in Upper Dane this evening at 7.30 o'clock. Each speaker will be allowed five minutes to discuss either side of the question: "Resolved, That United States senators should be elected by a direct vote of the people." Six men will be retained, and will be divided into two teams for a practice debate next Monday evening. At this second trial twelve minutes will be allowed for presentation and five minutes for rebuttal.
The judges at the trials will be Coach S.F. Peavey 3L., A.H. Elder 2L., and C.H. Raymond '10. Any additional Freshmen who wish to take part in the trials, and who have not yet sent in their names, may sign the list posted in Upper Dane, where the provisional order of speakers is given.
