An enthusiastic meeting of baseball candidates was held last evening in the Union. Captain Currier and Coach Pieper were the speakers. Captain Currier said that the battery candidates will be called out on February 1, and will be coached for a short time by "Christy" Matthewson of the New York Giants. Other candidates for the team will be called out on Monday, February 15, and the Freshmen on Tuesday, February 16. The coach for the 1912 squad will be announced soon.
Coach Pieper spoke of the necessity of a large squad and a number of scrub teams for the development of substitutes and first-string men for other years.
Coach Pieper and Captain Currier will train the squad themselves until Coach Donovan is through with the track squad. Graduates will be called on from time to time to assist in the coaching.
