The tournament for the golf championship of the University was begun yesterday at the Oakley Country Club course with a qualifying round of 18 holes. Twenty-five contestants started and some good scores were returned, B. W. Corkran 1L. leading the field with a score of 76. The following eight men qualified: B. W. Corkran 1L., 76; P. M. Smith '11, 76; T. M. Claflin sL., 78; H. H. Wilder '09, 81; A. F. Shaw '09, 84; W. F. Morgan, Jr., '10, 85; W. Hickox, Jr., '08, 86; R. Hornblower '11, 86.
For the consolation match those who qualified were: F. W. Davis '10, 87; A. W. Ingalls '09, 87; J. C. Parrish 1L., 87; M. MacArthur '10, 88; G. R. Minot '08, 88; A. M. Crosby '11, 90; M. Hollins '11, 92; T. A. E. Harris '11, 93.
The drawings for today's play for the University championship are: Corkran vs. Shaw; Claflin vs. Hickox; Smith vs. Morgan; Wilder vs. Hornblower. For the consolation medal the drawings were as follows: Davis vs. Minot; Parrish vs. Hollins; Ingalls vs. Crosby; MacArthur vs. Harris.
