Practice for the University football squad yesterday opened with preliminary work consisting of quick-starting, charging and dodging practice. The same four elevens which had previously practiced together were then given signal practice in preparation for the short scrimmage which followed. No tackling was allowed by the coaches and no penalties were inflicted, the purpose of the scrimmage being merely to try out the forward passes and to see how the team worked against a light defense. Team A, in possession of the ball, first lined up against Team B on the latter's 20-yard line, but were unable to put the ball over the line in a 15-minute scrimmage. In the line-up between Teams C and D, Rand made a touchdown for the former, but had the due penalties been inflicted, the results might have been different.
In the course of play A. T. Enos '10 was kicked in the head and had to be taken out of the game.
The line-ups were as follows: W. Peirce '08, who played left tackle last year, L. H. Butt '08 and G. D. Pirnie sC., reported for practice for the first time yesterday. Today there will be no practice.
