The candidates for the Freshman football team had their first practice yesterday afternoon on the old Freshman diamond. They were divided into groups according to positions and made to run about 50 yards at the snap of the ball. After this they were lined up and passed the ball to practice forward passes. The line men were sent down under a few kicks, and then the squad was divided into bunches of about 20 men, of which Harding, MacKay, Maguire, Strong, Smith, Johnson, and McCoy had charge. These squads practiced passing and were then sent for a run around the field.
A few backs were kept out to kick and catch punts. Of these the most promising were R. Cutler, who did some excellent kicking, Johnson, Minot, Page and Pope.
