Sweetser, of the Boston Latin School, won the interscholastic tennis championship yesterday on Jarvis Field by defeating Niles of Brookline High School, 6-2, 6-4, 7-5. As winner of the tournament, Sweetser is eligible to play in the national interscholastic tournament, to be held in Newport in August.
The other matches resulted as follows: Fourth round--Kayser (V.) defeated Hall (N. H. S.), 6-3, 6-3; Semi-finals--Sweetser (B.L.S.) defeated Whitney (W. H. S.), 6-2, 6-3; Niles (B. H. S.) defeated Kayser (V.), 6-1, 6-4.
Newton High School was awarded the championship shield for winning the greatest number of matches. The score was, Newton High School, 9; Volkmann, 8; Boston Latin School, 7; Andover, 6; Wellesley High School, 6; Brookline High School, 5; Dedham High School, 3; Exeter, 2; Brown and Nichols, 1.
