The Sophomore class baseball team defeated the Seniors Wednesday afternoon in the first game of the interclass series by the score of 7 to 5. Greene and Cooper, the opposing pitchers, did creditable work, Cooper striking out seventeen men, and allowing but two hits.
Tweed, who was to catch for the Seniors, broke his hand on the third ball pitched, and was replaced by Tyson, who proved unable to hold Greene. Tyson was soon replaced by Wellington, who also did not prove very satisfactory. In the first inning the Sophomores made three runs. Currie reached first on a liner past the pitcher, which Hall failed to handle, and went to second on a bad throw. He scored on a hit by Moss, who took second on the throw in, and scored on Cooper's liner to right field. Cooper stole third, and scored on a passed ball.
The Seniors scored one run in the second on Hall's hit and Weston's three-bagger. These were the Senior's only hits. They scored again in the third on a base on balls, a dead ball, and an error, and tied the score in the fourth on a base on balls, a steal, a sacrifice, and a passed ball. The Sophomores added two more in the sixth and seventh innings on two hits and some errors. The Seniors again tied the score in the seventh, making two runs through a base on balls and a bad throw over first base. The game was clinched in the last of the eighth by two runs, due to errors by the Seniors.

Finals This Afternoon.
This afternoon the Seniors and Juniors will play the second game of the interclass series on the Freshman diamond at 2 o'clock. The line-up of the Juniors has not yet been decided, but the Seniors will play the same as on Wednesday, except that Howe will catch. This should greatly increase the chances of the Seniors. The Juniors and the Sophomores will play the final game of the series on the Freshman diamond immediately after their game with the Seniors.
